About Laurie:

Did I have any idea when I was growing up that I would choose law as a profession? Not really. I didn’t come from a family of lawyers, but I was raised with a strong work ethic and parents who taught me that I could accomplish any goal I set for myself by working hard, being respectful and showing humility and kindness.

At Brandeis University, I majored in American Studies with a minor in Art and Architectural History. Boston provided many opportunities to explore incredible art and architecture, and my fascination led me to spend a semester abroad in Florence studying the old masters. The world opened for me while I was abroad. I was enlightened by my studies and the ability to travel and learn about different cultures. At the same time, I became more confident with my newfound abilities and empowered myself to use my strengths to pursue a career helping others. For me, that road led to law.

After growing up in Fairfield, Connecticut and attending college outside Boston, I was ready for a new city and headed south to Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. While in law school I interned with the Federal Defenders offices in both Atlanta and Miami and worked for the office of Roy Black, one of the most distinguished criminal defense attorneys in the country. Upon graduating, I started my legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, Florida, where I hit the ground running with a stack of 30 cases daily marked “ready for trial.” I thrived in the fast-paced environment, multitasking and winning jury trials. I also learned the importance of seeing all sides and having compassion for all parties- victims in Miami were often convicted criminals themselves.

My husband and I eventually returned home to Fairfield to start a family. After years down south, I missed the seasons, my friends, and family. A true New Englander at heart, I remember the joy of my first autumn and winter ski trip once back in Connecticut.

Upon returning to Connecticut, I worked as a law firm litigator before personal experience led me to understand the critical need for advocacy in the world of special education. I was moved by the struggles families experienced trying to secure diagnoses and find the help their children needed to succeed. I immersed myself in research and entered the world of special education advocacy.

Laurie the Professional:

I spent the next 15 years passionately advocating alongside parents and on behalf of children with special needs. I became a skilled and successful negotiator, treating all parties with respect while never losing sight of the big picture. My strength lies in remaining focused on goals and targets even when deep in the weeds of a case, always remembering what and who I’m fighting for. My cases were often complicated and layered, each requiring comprehensive understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the child and available support. One benefit of this work was building an extensive network of service providers—psychologists, psychiatrists, executive functioning coaches, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists—professionals I know and trust to provide their expertise when I need them.

Throughout my career, connecting with my clients as their trusted, compassionate counsel has been essential. Being a steadfast support through difficult times has been my focus as my client’s advocate. Fighting for justice and for my clients’ needs is my priority and has been since day one.

Over the years, my personal circumstances have exposed me to the world of finance and the complexities that often arise in sophisticated business and investment endeavors. Our firm handles a wide range of cases revolving around financial matters, including those involving high net worth and high-income individuals and families, and those where trusts and business structures are factors in the resolution of the divorce. While children’s issues always remain paramount in every case where they are

part of the family, I will always be committed to resolving the financial issues in an effective and efficient manner that benefits our clients.

With my cumulative experience across various aspects of law, I am uniquely qualified to practice family law. As a parent and advocate, I understand the pain parents experience when times are difficult for their children. As a family lawyer, I seek to help clients through some of life’s most difficult moments with grace, respect, and compassion.

I am admitted to practice law in Connecticut, New York and Florida. I am a member of the Fairfield County, New York and Connecticut Bar Associations.

Fun Facts:

Family, friends, music, exercise and travel help me balance my life. I’ve traveled extensively with my family, most recently to Japan, and my annual girls’ trips truly rejuvenate my soul. I love to hike with my dog any time of year, and if it’s summer, you’ll find me at the beach with a book or friends. An outdoor concert is my ideal evening activity. Although my husband and I are now empty nesters, our mini goldendoodle Emmy, and cats Cleo and Lila bring laughter, love, and the occasional mouse into our home.
